Gameday with Marcus Borden: Week 8

It’s finally here! It’s Cutoff Weekend in high school football here in New Jersey – event though it feels like the season started yesterday – and we discuss it all on the Week Seven edition of “Gameday with Marcus Borden.”

Mike and Marcus look at some big wins last week for Hillsborough and and St. Thomas Aquinas, then look at some of the key playoff races involving Big Central teams, including what looks like a lock No. 1 team in Somerville in South 3, and Spotswood sweating it out in South 2.

Then they preview this weekend’s coverage games, including Friday night, when Coach Borden will travel to Union County for Delaware Valley and New Providence. Saturday, he’ll be in Middlesex as the Blue Jays take on Belvidere in a battle of two of the top smaller schools in Middlesex County.

Gameday with Marcus Borden: Week 7

We’re just a week away from Cutoff Weekend in high school football here in New Jersey, and we discuss it all on the Week Seven edition of “Gameday with Marcus Borden.”

Mike and Marcus look at some big wins last week for Hillsborough and Franklin, then delve into the three top-seed contenders in North 4 – Ridge, Phillipsburg and Woodbridge – as well as South 3 favorite Somerville.

Then they preview this weekend’s coverage games, including Coach Borden in Piscataway where the Chiefs take on Hillsborough, the Friday Big Central Game of the Week presented by Bellamy & Son Paving – South Hunterdon at Spotswood – as well as our Saturday Game of the Week, with No. 7 St. Joseph-Metuchen hosting No. 3 St. Thomas Aquinas.

Gameday with Marcus Borden: Week 6

We’re headed down the home stretch in the high school football regular season here in New Jersey, and we discuss it on the Week Six edition of “Gameday with Marcus Borden.”

Mike and Marcus look at all the playoff sections with Big Central teams, and discuss who’s in the driver’s seat and who has work to do.

We also discuss the three games Coach Borden will cover this weekend: Hillsborough at Bridgewater-Raritan in a big rivalry game Thursday, Franklin at Sayreville Friday in a key matchup with playoff implications, and Dayton at Spotswood Saturday afternoon as the Chargers debut their brand-new turf field.

But first, Mike and Marcus tell you how they really feel about the Andy Steinfeld fiasco at East Brunswick.

Gameday with Marcus Borden: Week 5

Another weekend of High School Football in New Jersey is in the books, and we discuss it on the Week Five edition of “Gameday with Marcus Borden.”

We take a look at the two teams leading their respective supersections in the playoff chase so far – Woodbridge and Somerville – plus this weekend’s games, including the one Coach Borden will be covering Friday night: Summit at Somerville, a battle of undefeated teams.

We also talk Piscataway-Sayreville and our two “Big Central Game of the Week” broadcasts this weekend – presented by Bellamy & Son Paving, of course – Colonia at Edison at 7 pm Friday, and Highland Park at Metuchen at 1:00 Saturday afternoon.

Gameday with Marcus Borden: Week 4

Another weekend of High School Football in New Jersey is in the books, and we discuss it on the Week Three edition of “Gameday with Marcus Borden.”

We look back at last week’s Bragging Rights Trophy game between unbeatens Colonia and Woodbridge, then look at this week’s games, with Coach Borden covering Del Val at Voorhees, while East Brunswick at Old Bridge is the Big Central Game of the Week presented by Bellamy & Son Paving.

We also look at two critical matchups with playoff implications: Highland Park at Spotswood and Sayreville at North Brunswick. That and much more!

Gameday with Marcus Borden: Week 3

Another weekend of High School Football in New Jersey is in the books, and we discuss it on the Week Three edition of “Gameday with Marcus Borden.”

We look back at a big win for Ridge over Hillsborough ahead of the Red Devils taking on No. 1 Phillipsburg up in Basking Ridge Friday night, a game you can hear on our “Bellamy & Son Paving Game of the Week.” Click here to listen.

Also on the show, Coach Borden touches on the John Fiore firing in Elizabeth and how it’ll affect Elizabeth moving forward, all the close games we’ve had so far this season in the Big Central, and the three games he’ll be at this weekend, including Belvidere at Dunellen Thursday, Monroe at East Brunswick Friday, and Woodbridge at Colonia Saturday for the township bragging rights trophy.

Friday, at the East Brunswick game, the Bears will honor their 2004 Central Jersey Group 4 championship team, which Borden himself coached. That was the first of two titles he won with East Brunswick, the other coming in 2009.

Gameday with Marcus Borden: Week 2

The second week of High School Football in New Jersey is in the books, and we’re talking about it on the Week Two edition of “Gameday with Marcus Borden.”

The biggest story of the weekend, of course, was JP Stevens snapping its 42-game losing streak, the longest in the state at the time, with a 22-21 overtime victory over Bound Brook. Coach Borden was there, and talked about the atmosphere, the Hawks’ comeback, and how the program has improved under second-year head coach Jason Goerge.

Also on the show, Coach Borden touches on Piscataway and Bridgewater-Raritan’s combined 100-point game, Rahway coach Brian Russo getting his 100th win, South Brunswick’s 2-0 start, and whether Highland Park – which ended its own skid at 51 games last year – cane make it three wins in a row when they play Dayton this Friday night.

Gameday with Marcus Borden: Week 1

The first week of High School Football in New Jersey is in the Books, and we’re talking about it on the Week One edition of “Gameday with Marcus Borden.”

We take a look at Jayden Loftin’s season-ending ACL injury and how it will affect Somerville, St. Thomas Aquinas’ late rally that fell short down in Delaware, and the challenges of PATs and two-point conversions at the high school level, which figured prominently in a few Big Central games last weekend.

The high school football season is upon us, and it’s time to talk about it with Marcus Borden.

The majority of Big Central Conference teams open up this weekend, and we talk about our Bellamy & Son Paving Big Central Game of the Week, featuring No. 3 Hillsborough visiting No. 5 Somerville, with lots of talented players on both sides.

Also on the show, Coach Borden talks about the three games he’ll be covering this weekend: Woodbridge at Old Bridge on Thursday, Elizabeth at Linden on on Friday, and Saturday’s trip to Wilmington, Delaware to watch St. Thomas Aquinas take on St. Joe’s of Maryland. Plus, host Mike Pavlichko asks Marcus “Five Questions” about the upcoming season.

Gameday with Marcus Borden: Group Semifinals!

The Big Central saw Bernards get crowned as a sectional champion last weekend, while Phillipsburg was knocked off by Union City and St. Thomas Aquinas was eliminated in the group semifinals.
