Only one of the boys’ basketball games involving Central Jersey Sports Radio-area teams Friday night didn’t go the locals’ way, as five area teams advanced and two went home on Day Three of the NJSIAA state basketball tournament.
St. Joseph-Metuchen – which eliminated Immaculata in an all-area game – Timothy Christian, Gill St. Bernard’s and Calvary Christian all moved on, while Pingry was knocked out as well.
And on the public side, Colonia won its opening round game Friday night, as the third-seeded Patriots blew out 14th-seed Fort Lee 72-33 in their opening round North 2, Group 3 home game, their first time on the floor since the sudden death Wednesday of assistant coach Danny Brix.
Aiden Derkack led all scorers with 22 points and 16 rebounds, his eighth double-double of the season, while Jaeden Jones chipped in 17 in a game that was never in doubt, with Colonia up 40-12 at halftime.
On the Non-Public side, 4th-seed St. Joseph beat 13-seed Immaculata at home, 65-58, with the Falcons leading most of the way in their South A opener.
In North B, sixth-seed Timothy Christian led virtually wire to wire in a 67-43 home win over 11-seed Pioneer Academy. The Tigers got a double double from Chukwudi Raphael-Mamah, who scored 10 points and grabbed 21 rebounds, while Jalen Fleming led with 25 and Myles Dickerson added 19 points and seven boards.
And fourth-seeded Calvary Christian won its South B opener, 80-36, over 13th-seed Moorestown Friends in Old Bridge.
