The 2023 broadcast schedule for Central Jersey Sports Radio is set, featuring at least 13 Big Central Conference regular season games, including some big rivalries, two flex-schedule weekends including – for the second straight year – a fan vote, and part of the Rumble on the Raritan showcase at Rutgers University.
At least 18 teams will be covered during the season, with the potential for more in the final two weeks of the regular season and the playoffs, which start the weekend of October 27th.
It all gets started on the opening weekend of the season – Week Zero – when Elizabeth and Linden square off in a stand-alone regular season rivalry game at Kean University on Friday, August 25th at 7:30 pm.
September rolls in with a small-school matchup, as Dayton travels to take on Dunellen at Columbia Park at 7 pm on September 1. The Bulldogs beat the Destroyers 14-8 in last year’s season opener.
Week two features our first-ever trip out to historic Maloney Stadium as Ridge visits Phillipsburg in the latest installment of a highly-entertaining series on Friday, September 8th at 7 pm. Then, we’re back it at with the small schools Saturday afternoon on the 9th in Spotswood as the Chargers take on Brearley at 1 pm.
We’ve got two more games the following week, with Sayreville travelling to Edison for a 7 pm Thursday kickoff on September 14th, followed by Montgomery at Somerville at 7 pm on Friday, the 15th.
On Friday, September 27th, it’ll be CJSR’s first trip to Scotch Plains-Fanwood as the Raiders take on Westfield in a longtime rivalry, which will be played under the lights for the very first time, with a 7 pm kickoff.
Two days later, on Sunday, the 24th, it’s the Big Central’s turn to take center stage at the two-day Rumble on the Raritan at Rutgers University’s SHI Stadium in Piscataway. Our doubleheader will feature Hillsborough versus Phillipsburg at noon, while North Brunswick and Sayreville will square off at 3:30 pm.
We close out a nine-game month of September with JP Stevens playing at “The Pit” against Carteret in a 7:00 kickoff on Friday, the 29th.
October begins with a trip to Piscataway on Friday, the 6th, when the Chiefs take on East Brunswick at 7:00.
The last two weeks will be decided later in the year. Friday the 13th will be a “Fans’ Choice” weekend, with you, the fans, getting to choose our game via online voting to run October 7th through the 9th. Last year, the winner was Piscataway at Sayreville.
Our cutoff weekend game will be on Friday, October 20th, with the matchup to be announced the weekend prior.
The next day, we’ll have our annual playoff projection show airing late on the afternoon of Saturday, the 21st, hosted by Central Jersey Sports Radio’s Mike Pavlichko.
And, as always, we’ll have extensive playoff coverage as well on Central Jersey Sports Radio as teams vie for true state Group titles for the second straight season.
