This Week in the Big Central – Episode 13: The Championship Weekend 2021

It’s time to crown some champions!

On Episode 13 of “This Week in the Big Central,” driven by Mark Montenero and his team at the world-famous Autoland, we’ve got complete previews of the three conference teams vying for championships this weekend.

Mike Pavlichko is joined by Dom Savino for quick look back at the semifinals, then we go through both games with the players and coaches involved.

First, it’s a look at our Big Central Game of the Week, driven by Autoland, as the North 2, Group 3 title game features top-seed and undefeated Cranford (10-0) taking on Sparta (8-3). Mike Pavlichko talks with Cranford head coach Erik Rosnemeier and runningback Colin Murray, as well as Sparta head coach Frank Marchiano.

Then, Mike takes a look at the Central Jersey Group 5 title tilt, featuring top-seed and undefeated Hillsborough (11-0) entertaining third-seed North Brunswick (8-3). Mike Pavlichko stopped by each team’s practice this week to catch up with Hillsborough head coach Kevin Carty, Jr., and defensive end/tight end Will Dixon, as well as North Brunswick head coach Miek Cipot and top runningback Marquis Perry.

Mike and Dom close it out with a closer analysis of both matchups.

Listen to Cranford take on Sparta in the Big Central Game of the Week driven by Autoland with an extended pregame starting at 6:30, followed by kickoff at 7 with Mike Pavlichko and Justin Sontupe, while Tim Catalfamo provides live updates from the Hillsborough-North Brunswick game. Postgame reaction will follow from both contests later Friday night on cjsportsradio.com.

Hillsborough looking to quench 21-year championship drought when North Brunswick comes to town for a battle of Raiders

One thing is for sure: sometime around 9:30 Friday night, the Raiders will be the Central Jersey Group 5 champions.

Whether that’s the top-seed Hillsborough or third-seed North Brunswick remains to be seen.

The Raiders come in 11-0, in the midst of their best season ever. Only four times prior has Hillsborough finished a regular season undefeated – the last time coming in 1996 – but they’ve never reached 11 wins before.

None of that will matter to this group – which many observers feel may the best in program history – if they don’t win Game Number 12.

That’s Friday night at 7:00 at Noonan Field when North Brunswick (8-3) comes to visit for the first home title game in school history.

Central Jersey Sports Radio’s Tim Catalfamo will have live updates of the game during our Big Central Game of the Week, driven by Autoland, the North 2, Group 3 title game between Cranford and Sparta. He’ll also have postgame reaction after the game on cjsportsradio.com.

No. 2 Hillsborough rolls to 7-0 with 44-0 win over No. 5 Old Bridge, as Dixon scores twice

Tight end Will Dixon probably gets more attention for how disruptive he can be on defense.

It was Dixon, after all, who got in the face of Phillipsburg’s quarterback before Tommy Amakwaa picked off a pass in overtime to seal a win against the Stateliners.

On Friday night at Noonan Field, Dixon got into the act offensively for No. 2 and undefeated Hillsborough, with the first two-touchdown effort of his career, en route to a 44-0 win over fifth-ranked Old Bridge.

The win moves the Raiders to 7-0, while Old Bridge drops to 5-2.

Hillsborough travels to Piscataway next week, before North Brunswick comes to town on Week 9. Old Bridge will play at JP Stevens next week, then host Sayreville.
