Senior Kaylee Lauber scored a career high 30 points – and hit eleven straight free throws in crunch time in the fourth quarter – to power sixth-ranked Somerville to a 52-44 win at in-town rival Immaculata in a Skyland Conference Mountain Division game.

The Hillsborough girls’ basketball team won its first-ever state championship, defeating West Orange in the Group 4 Championship Game, 55-52, behind a team-high 18 points from senior Cesci Schiro and 17 from fellow senior Mya Loniewski.

Stellar first-half defense that propelled Central Group 4 champion Montgomery to a 39-5 halftime lead gave the Cougars a 62-32 win over South 4 champ Lenape in the state Group 4 semifinals. The win sends Monty to its first-ever state championship game, where they will play Plainfield in the Group 4 finals.

Cesci Schiro led Central Group 4 champion Hillsborough with 24 points as the Raiders’ finished with a strong fourth-quarter to beat South 4 winner Cherokee, 49-34, in the Group 4 semifinals. The win puts Hillsborough in the state Group 4 title game for the first time ever, where they’ll take on West Orange.

On the strength of a 12-2 third quarter, North 1 champion Ramapo topped North 2 champion Colonia in the Group 3 boys’ semifinals, 52-46. Freshman A.J. Grieg led the Raiders with 24 points, while junior Aiden Derkack’s 19 led the Patriots in defeat.
