Aquinas’ season ends with opening round playoff loss at Holy Spirit

St. Thomas Aquinas had won nine games in a row heading into this weekend’s first round of the Non-Public Group B playoffs.

But just as their season began with a loss, it ended with a loss Friday night, as the 5th-seeded Trojans lost to 4th-seed Holy Spirit in Absecon, 50-21.

Holy Spirit scored the first four touchdowns of the game before St. Thomas Aquinas cut the deficit to 29-7 going into the locker room at halftime. Chase Youn, Joel Marellis and Jayden Young scored on touchdown runs in the game.

Aquinas finishes the year 9-2 under first-year head coach Tarig Holman, and will go itno the 2023 season with a 17-game Big Central Conference winning streak, the best in the league.
