Ridge pounds Roxbury to move on in North 1, Group 4 playoffs

Ridge head coach Andy West talks to his team after an upset road win over Woodbridge in the opening round of the playoffs on November 5, 2021.

On a night when only seven Big Central teams advanced from the first round of the state playoffs – and three of them had to because there were a trio of all-league matchups – Ridge made it one for the BCC with a big win of its own.

The third-seeded Red Devils took a 35-7 lead into the locker room at halftime over 6th-seed Roxbury, and added a bunch more insurance while the defense held in the second half, for a 52-7 victory Friday nigh in the North Jersey, Section 1, Group 4 first round.

After a 1-2 start – albeit with the losses coming to Phillipsburg and Hillsborough – Ridge has now won six straight and is 7-2 heading into a sectional semifinal clash at 2nd-seed Ramapo, which won Friday night 49-19 over 7th-seed Woodbridge. That game is expected to be a 6:30 pm kick at Ramapo next Friday night.

Will Deady had three touchdown runs to pace Ridge.
