All but one higher seed advance to boys’ GMC Tournament first round; league change quarterfinal game times

Perth Amboy – the 17th seed in the boys’ Greater Middlesex Conference Basketball Tournament – pulled off the most minor of upsets Tuesday night, winning at 16th-seed Middlesex Tuesday night in the preliminary round.

But other than that, it all went to chalk again, as 15 of the first 16 games so far have gone to the higher seed.

Here are Tuesday’s other results:

  • 9-Piscatawy def. 24-Perth Amboy Tech, 69-38
  • 12-JP Stevens def. 21-North Brunswick, 45-37
  • 13-Old Bridge def. 20-Woodbridge, 60-42
  • 14-Sayreville def. 19-Metuchen, 68-51
  • 11-East Brunswick def. 22-Wardlaw-Hartridge, 70-57
  • 10-South River def. 23-Highland Park, 59-42
  • 15-Spotswood def. 18-New Brunswick, 64-57

Now in Thursday’s first round, the matchups are:

  • 17-Perth Amboy at 1-St. Thomas Aquinas
  • 9-Piscataway at 8-Timothy Christian
  • 12-JP Stevens at 5-South Brunswick
  • 13-Old Bridge at 4-Monroe
  • 14-Sayreville at 3-Colonia
  • 11-East Brunswick at 6-Edison
  • 10-South River at 7-South Plainfield
  • 15-Spotswood at 2-St. Joseph-Metuchen

Also, the game times have been changed for this weekend’s quarterfinals at Middlesex County College in Edison. The girls play Saturday, while the boys play Sunday.

Game times both days now will be 11 am for the 7/10 vs. 2/15 game, 1 pm for the 3/14 vs. 6/11 game, 3 pm for the 13/4 vs. 12/5 game, and 5 pm for the 9/8 vs. 17/1 game.
