Kingsway head coach Mark Hendricks didn’t quite know what to make of his football team coming into 2021.
How could anyone, with the Dragons only managing five games in the COVID-shortened 2020 season?
The one thing he knew was that they had a young team, and they might take some lumps in the tough West Jersey Football League.
They lost four regular season games, and were just 4-4 at the cutoff, but 7th overall in the South 5 supersection, thanks to a strong strength of schedule.
Losses to Cherokee, Shawnee and St. Joseph-Hammonton weren’t exactly chopped liver.
Along the way, Kingsway found its quarterback, and settled in.
Now, they’ve won five straight, three in a row in the playoffs, plus beat Clearview on Thanksgiving for the first time since 2006.
They take all of that into Rutgers University’s SHI Stadium Saturday afternoon for a 1:00 kick against Hillsborough, the overall top seed in the supersection, for the South Jersey Group 5 regional championship.
You can hear the game live on Central Jersey Sports Radio, our final Big Central Game of the Week driven by Autoland.
Live coverage begins at 12:15 with a special extended pregame show. Mike Pavlichko and Justin Sontupe will call the action, and Max Scheiner will be the sideline reporter, providing live postgame reaction following the contest.
