There’s not much the Hillsborough football team hasn’t done this season.
Finish the regular season undefeated? Check.
Win a state championship? Check again.
There’s more, but we’d run out of space. Suffice it to say, the 2021 Raiders have done everything asked of them, and more, and the results have been impressive.
Saturday afternoon, they’ll have a chance to do something not only has no Hillsborough team ever done, but no Somerset County team has ever done: finish the season 13-0.
Piscataway is the only other team to do it, going 13-0 in 2018, when they won the North 2 Group 5 title, then beat Ridgewood in what was then called the North 5 “bowl game.”
So Hillsborough (12-0) has its shot Saturday afternoon in Piscataway, when the Raiders take on the Kingsway Dragons (8-4) at Rutgers University’s SHI Stadium.
It’s the Big Central Game of the Week driven by Mark Monetenero and his team at the world-famous Autoland, with kickoff set for 1 pm on Central Jersey Sports Radio. Pregame begins at 12:15. You can click here to listen.
Mike Pavlichko and Justin Sontupe will call all the action, with Max Scheiner reporting from the sidelines and providing postgame reaction from down on the field.
