Metuchen seeking first win Saturday in “postseason” battle with South Hunterdon

by Mike Pavlichko

Metuchen has faced its share of obstacles over the past few years.

The Bulldogs football program was suffering from a lack of numbers until Guy Jensen took over.

Perhaps more notable for his success at Piscataway, where he coached the boys’ basketball team to new heights including three GMC Red Division titles, two GMC crowns, a North 2 Group 4 sectional title, and a Group 4 finals appearance, Jensen this year had to navigate the Bulldogs through multiple COVID stoppages, one of which came during the season.

He’s working hard to develop the program – not just the team – and shared a bit about the process and how it’s going this week before Saturday’s “postseason” game against South Hunterdon. That game kicks off at 1:00 on our “Big Central Game of the Week” powered by Bellamy & Son Paving. Mike Pavlichko will have the call.

Metuchen (0-4) and South Hunterdon (2-4) have met six times prior, most recently a 21-0 playoff win for the Eagles in 2014. They lead the Bulldogs 3-2-1 in the series, with Metuchen’s only wins coming in 1942 (their first-ever meeting) and 1951. The tie was in 1952 and South Hunterdon won games in 1996 and 1997, in addition to 2014.
