Senior quarterback Vincent Cilento rushed for 202 yards and three touchdowns, part of a potent A.L. Johnson ground game that rushed for 403 on the night, and beat Perth Amboy 41-28 at Waters Stadium to claim a share of the Big Central Conference Patriot Silver Division title.
A Panther win would have given them the title all by themselves, but the Crusaders’ win – coupled with New Providence winning at Spotswood, 34-7, Friday night – leaves a three-way tie for the division title between the schools, with each splitting against the other two.
Zaire Majerska rushed for 109 yards and two more scores in the win, as Johnson improved to 5-2 on the year, while Amboy fell to 6-2. The Crusaders, Panthers and Pioneers all finished Patriot Silver play at 4-1.
Johnson got the first two scores of the game on a pair of Cilento touchdown runs before Perth Amboy got on the board in the second quarter, scoring after they got the ball on an interception at 10:02 of the second quarter, but that was as close as they would get, as Johnson took a 27-12 lead into the halftime break.
After a scoreless third that ended with the Crusaders driving, Majerska punched in a TD, but Amboy came but with a 22-yard touchdown pass and two-point run to keep it a two-score game, but Majerska’s second TD run, this one from 20 yards out, sealed the deal, despite a one-yard touchdown run by Amboy QB Amauris Peguero with ten seconds left.
