St. Thomas Aquinas’ Young and Odoh looking to run past St. Joseph in Saturday morning tussle

The St. Thomas Aquinas football team has a dynamic and exciting running game that’s led the way this season and has been a big reason for their success.

They hope to continue that Saturday morning when the No. 3 Trojans (5-2) visit No. 7 St. Joseph Metuchen Saturday morning in the first meeting between the Big Central Conference’s only parochial schools since 2015, before the Big Central was even a thought.

You can hear that game – our Saturday “Big Central Game of the Week” presented by Bellamy & Son Paving – right here on Central Jersey Sports Radio, with kickoff slated for 11 am, and the pregame show at 10:45. Mike Pavlichko and Vin Ebenau have the call; click here to listen.

STA has outscored its opponents 293 to 125 this season. And of the 41 times the team has reached the end zone for six, 22 touchdowns have been by the running backs, and 16 of those 22 have been run in by sophomore Chukwuma Odoh (10) and senior Chase Young (6).

But the receiving corps also has been solid, led by Josiah Zayas, who has 12 of the team’s 16 receiving touchdowns.

And they can do it on defense and special teams, too. Chase Young has a pick-six on defense, and freshman Ca’si Thomas and junior Anwar Witherspoon both have run kickoffs back for a touchdown.

It’s a well-rounded St. Thomas Aquinas football team that Assistant Coach/RB Coach Justin Hill explains is due to all of the hard work they’ve put in since training camp.
