In what arguably was the biggest win of the night for a Big Central Conference football team, Perth Amboy got all six touchdowns from senior quarterback Amaris Peguero via the rush en route to a 39-35 road win at New Providence.

The win bumped the Panthers’ record up to 6-1, 4-0 in the BCC Patriot Silver Division, and gives them a shot at the division title next week when they host Johnson (4-2) on homecoming next week at Waters’ Stadium, where Perth Amboy is a perfect 3-0 on the season.

Amboy led most of the way, answering every time New Providence got just a little bit closer. While he didn’t have final stats tallied at press time, first-year head coach Evan Baubles says Peguero ran for and threw for about 200 yards each in the game.

Baubles has orchestrated a remarkable turnaround in the Bay City for a program a team that went 1-9 last year and hadn’t won more than three games in a season since 2018. The sixth win is the most since the team went 6-4 in 2011 and 2010.

Next week, they will go for win No. 7 against Johnson, their most since going 7-1-1 in 1967.
