Monday, December 8 is the first day of the high school basketball season in New Jersey, with some teams opening up during Week Zero, but the majority waiting until the weekend to hit the hardwood for the first games of the 2025-26 season.
This year’s broadcast schedule on Central Jersey Sports Radio is a bit bigger, with 15 regular season games, more likely to be added, plus postseason coverage of the Greater Middlesex Conference and Somerset County Tournaments, as well as the NJSIAA State Tournament.

Central Jersey Sports Radio’s coverage begins this Saturday, with play-by-play of two games at Edison High School in Piscataway coach Bob Turco’s “Outerbridge Crossing Challenge” showcase, featuring GMC schools playing Staten Island teams. Edison draws Petrides at 1 pm, and Piscataway will get McKee/Staten Island Tech at 2:30 out at Edison High School.
We’ll get two girls’ games the next week, including Franklin at Rutgers Prep on Monday, December 15, and Somerville at Immaculata for an in-town rivalry game on the 18th, with Piscataway at Colonia in a rematch of the 2025 GMCT final to close out the 2025 portion of the schedule on Tuesday, December 23rd.
January is a busy month with ten games on the docket, and potentially more to be added later. We’ll see top matchups like Gill St. Bernard’s boys meeting Montgomery for their first regular season meeting since 2019, a girls/boys doubleheader at South Plainfield, a big rivalry game between the Bound Brook and Manville boys, and six-time defending GMCT girls’ champion St. Thomas Aquinas hosting powerhouse Saddle River Day, among others.
