Saturday Big Central Roundup: St. Joseph’s shutout of Phillipsburg sure to roil rankings, Bernards gets 4th quarter TD to win at Summit

There were just five games on the Big Central Conference schedules on a drizzly, gray, damp Saturday afternoon, but there were some big wins as the heat gets turned up in the final few weeks before the NJSIAA cutoff for the playoffs.

There was No. 6 St. Joseph-Metuchen staying unbeaten by knocking off undefeated and No. 1 Phillipsburg, via a 21-0 shutout at home that gave head coach Bill Tracy his 150th career coaching win.

There was Bernards – still with their freshman quarterback starting – gutting out a 17-14 win at Summit, which had been unbeaten until last week and now has lost two straight.

There was Voorhees, solidifying its playoff standing with a 21-14 win in a key game at Governor Livingston.

And Carteret came up with a solid win on the road, topping Hillside, 21-13.
