The Middlesex Blue Jays, which won their GMC record seventh state title Monday with a 3-1 victory over Midland Park in the NJSIAA Group 1 title game – jumped up three places in the final Bellamy & Son Paving baseball rankings for 2025, and though they don’t finish as the top-ranked team, they are the 2025 Central Jersey Sports Radio Team of the Year.
Middlesex finishes the season at 23-5, one of just three Greater Middlesex Conference teams to win 20-plus games this season, the others being Colonia and East Brunswick Magnet. The Blue Jays reached the semifinals of the Jim Muldowney GMC Tournament – falling 3-0 to eventual runner-up Edison – and won the Central Jersey Group 1 title and the state Group 1 championship, both for the first time since 2021.
Please check back Thursday for our feature story on the Blue Jays with seniors Dom Parenti and Owen Reynolds coming out Thursday morning.
St. Joseph-Metuchen (16-7) finishes at No. 1, and despite a fourth-place finish in the GMC Red Division, won the GMC Tournament by taking all four games in walk-off fashion, having never had a lead in any of the four contests until they won them in their final at bat.
Immaculata (17-8) finishes second, winners of the Somerset County Tournament, and co-champions in the rugged Skyland Conference Delaware Division.
After Middlesex in third, Hillsborough (14-11) dropped one place to fourth. Also playing in the Skyland Delaware – finishing fifth out of six teams – they went on a run late in the season and won the Central Jersey Group 4 championship, beating Old Bridge in the title game. It was their first sectional win since 2012.
Ridge (20-7) checks in at No. 5, and the Red Devils were the only team in the Skyland Conference to win 20 games. They shared the Delaware Division title with Immaculata, splitting in the regular season, but fell to the Spartans in the county championship game, 3-0.
South Plainfield (18-11) finishes sixth. The Tigers finished second in the GMC Red Division – despite beating pennant-winner Woodbridge twice in the regular season – and won the North 2, Group 3 title over Colonia (23-5), which finishes in seventh. The Patriots finished second in the GMC White Division. They had quality wins in the regular season over Middlesex (earning a split) and Woodbridge, taking the township rivalry series with a win over JFK as well. Colonia had wins against every team on its schedule except for the Tigers in the state sectional final.
Old Bridge (18-11) comes in eighth, reaching the Central Jersey Group 4 championship game, while Edison (17-11) finishes ninth. The Eagles made a run to the Jim Muldowney GMC Tournament championship game, losing in heartbreaking fashion to St. Joseph on a walk-off grand slam by JP Zayle.
Woodbridge (18-8) finished in tenth. The Barrons won the GMC Red Division and were the top-seed in the county tournament, but lost to South River in the opening round.
