St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Edison has brought on a familiar face to lead its boys’ basketball program, hiring Tom Weiler, who spent the 2020-21 season as an assistant and the freshman team head coach under Bob Turco, who left after last year to go to Piscataway.
Weiler most recently spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Division 3 Waynesburg University in southwestern Pennsylvania under Tim Fusina, who was Weiler’s head coach when he played at Centenary University.

He also has experience coaching AAU ball with the United NJ 16U team. He was a head coach, and also served in a player development role with the 15U, 16U and 17U programs.
Weiler played in North Edison when the school was known as Bishop Ahr, graduating in 2015. He played for longtime coach Dennis O’Keefe, and was the leading scorer on the team his senior year, averaging 16.5 points per game as the Trojans went 10-2, 7-5 in the Greater Middlesex Conference Blue Division. He finished his career at the school with 846 points in three varsity seasons.
St. Thomas went 15-12 this past year and finished third in the GMC Red under Victor Verdeica, who was an assistant to head coach Austin Whitehurst, who was initially suspended for the first eight games for making improper contact with a player from another school, and never returned to the sidelines.
