In his pregame interview, Monroe coach Jeff Warner said his team was having trouble scoring the basketball all year. They’d been averaging a shade under 40 points a game in their first nine, with only two wins to show for it.
So much for a lack of offense.
After a low-scoring first-half in which Monroe led 24-15 at the half, the points came in bunches in the second, and the Falcons came away with a 57-49 win at Spotswood in a GMC crossover Monday night, as heard live on Central Jersey Sports Radio.
And it was the scoring that did it for Monroe. Senior Logan Fotiadis set a new career high with 20 points, all on two-pointers, while senior Taran Singh set a career high as well, finishing with 15, and he took a couple of big charges in the game, too.
Monroe got out to a 16-point lead – its biggest of the game – with three minutes to go in the third quarter, but the Chargers closed to within nine at the end of three, and got as close as seven on a few occasions, but could never quite get over the hump.
Monroe improves to 3-7 on the year, while Spotswood drops to 5-7.
