Throughout his high school career, Jackson Morrison has had other, more senior players be the leaders on the team.
Last year, he broke out of role player status, and became more of a dominant player, according to head coach Anthony Melesurgo.
Now, it’s his turn to be the leader.
With four key Crusaders lost to graduation, including Jayden Peryear (Seton Hall), Jeremiah Williams (Dominican), Jarred Wooden and Anthony Riquelme (both at RVCC), it’s all Morrison.
So far, he’s picked up right where he left off. Morrison poured in 30 points – including four treys – grabbed five rebounds, and dished out six assists in a season-opening win earlier this week over Great Oaks Charter.
Morrison is No. 2 on the list of returning scorers from last year, when he tallied 577 points (23.8 per game) and is second only to South River’s Alex Grospe.
One of the few schools that started playing a bit earlier than the rest, Bound Brook – coming off a 16-11 season – is looking to make more inroads this year in the division, and the county and state tournaments.
Last year, they were 2-8 in the Skyland Raritan with much larger schools. This season, they’re in the Valley with schools a little more their size: Somerville, Bernards, Delaware Valley and North Hunterdon. And we’ll have the Crusaders live on Central Jersey Sports Radio on Saturday, January 11th at 1 pm for a divisional matchup with the Pioneers.
