This past week started on Thursday evening in Dunellen as the visiting Seaters of Belvidere improved their record to 3-1, having shutout their last two opponents for a combined 55-0.
They are a senior-laden team that runs an up-tempo spread offense led by senior quarterback Kyle Blew, who also plays defense alongside WR/DB Mason Chamberlain, one of his favorite targets.
On Friday I returned to Jay Doyle Field in East Brunswick as the 2004 Central Jersey Group IV Championship team was honored at half-time of the game between the Bears and Monroe.
It was a pleasure to see some of the team’s top performers in attendance as well as the recently retired Keith Lane who played a key role along with Andy Steinfeld in coordinating the defenses for both championship teams in 2004 and 2009.
The final stop on my three-day journey took me to the blue turf in Colonia as the Patriots hosted Woodbridge in their annual rivalry game for the Bragging Rights Trophy.
The game did not disappoint as the two teams showed toughness, grit and a never-say-die attitude until the clock hit zero giving the Barrons’ their 500th program victory.
