One of just a couple of divisions that saw no changes from last year, the National Gold features all GMC schools, and is very reminiscent of the Red Division, with a hint of the White.
Piscataway looks ready to make a move back into championship firm, coming off a 6-4 year, and now three years removed from not having played at all during the 2020 COVID-affected season.
While South Brunswick also had a solid year, the Vikings will be with a new coach for the third time in six years, as Ibrahim Halsey comes over from Roselle. But he has seen the talent, and football IQ, and is upbeat about their prospects.
Old Bridge had a very young team in 2023, and looks to take a step up, as does Monroe, in its second season with alum Nick Isola at the helm. And then there’s East Brunswick, which was 8-4 the year after COVID, but has struggled to a pair of one-win seasons each of the last two. Their big question will be “tuning out the noise” and focusing on football after the unceremonious and controversial dismissal of Andy Steinfeld as head coach in late July, almost unheard of at the high school level.
