The 2024 Greater Middlesex Conference baseball tournament was widely considered to be wide open before it even started.
We’ve had upsets, 14-inning games, no-hitters, and miracle rallies. But we’re down to the final four, with South Plainfield, Old Bridge, Edison and Sayreville all still in the mix.
Top-seed South Plainfield rallied from a 9-4 deficit in the bottom of the seventh to beat 8-seed South Brunswick 10-9 in Wednesday’s quarterfinals. They’ll play fifth-seed Edison, which only needed a solo home run from big bopper Jaxon Appelman to beat 13-seed Middlesex 1-0.
Third-seed Old Bridge came from behind to beat 11th-seed North Brunswick 8-5, and the Knights will take on 10th-seed Sayreville, which knocked off two higher-seeded teams to get to the semis, beating seventh-seed Woodbridge 3-2 on Wednesday.
South Plainfield and Edison will play at noon Saturday at Ray Cipperly Field in East Brunswick in the GMCT semis, followed by Old Bridge and Sayreville at 2:30, with both games broadcast live on Central Jersey Sports Radio. Mike Pavlichko and Justin Sontupe will be on the call. Click here to listen.
But who do you think will win it all? The title game is next Saturday, May 18th at 2:30 at Ray Cipperly Field. But you can vote below for the team you think will take the crown!
