The Somerset County Tournament opens Thursday night, with the first of five rounds of play.
And there’s an extra team this year, too. College Achieve Central – based in North Plainfield, not to be confused with its sister, College Achieve Asbury Park down the shore – is participating as a sort of trial member. Their end goal is to join the Skyland Conference as a full-fledged member.
(Ironically, North Plainfield left the Skyland Conference and joined the Greater Middlesex Conference in all sports – except football – last season.)
That means the girls’ side has a full 16-team bracket this year, while the boys have 15; the girls have an extra school in girls-only Mount St. Mary in Watchung.

- (14) Manville at Bridgewater-Raritan, 5:30 pm
- (15) College Achieve Central at (10) Immaculata, 7 pm (following girls’ game)

- (13) Montgomery at (12) Bernards, 5 pm
- (14) Manville at (11) Immaculata, 5 pm
- (15) Bridgewater-Raritan at (10) Bound Brook, 4 pm
