Scott Miller had done triple-duty the last few years for Brearley High School, perhaps the most challenging of his long tenure in Kenilworth.
He was the Athletic Director and head football coach for many years, but became one of the co-founders of the Big Central Conference – a merger between the Mid-State and GMC – along with serving as its president.
After a run to the North 1, Group 1 sectional final last year with outstanding quarterback Matt Sims, head football coach is now off Miller’s plate, and he’s handed the keys to one of his former players.
Allen Phillips has been an assistant for Miller as well as a player, and also been involved with other sports the last few years at Brearley. On the football field, he was a freshman in 2006 when the Bears went undefeated and won the North 2, Group 1 state championship.
So he’s seen the program from both perspectives, and now will put it use as the head man.
