North Brunswick moves into tie with Sayreville for first place in Week 1 Top Ten

Neither has played yet, but it was a numbers game in the Central Jersey Sports Radio Big Central Top Ten this week, as North Brunswick moved up into a tie with Sayreville for first place in Week One.

The reason obviously didn’t have to do with how they fared in Week Zero, since all they did was continue to prep for their openers. This Friday night, North Brunswick entertains arch-rival South Brunswick, while Sayreville hosts Phillipsburg for the first-time ever.

A loss by Bridgewater-Raritan, which dropped them out of the rankings, juggled the math so that Sayreville and North Brunswick ended up tied.

Otherwise, there was very little movement, as the Panthers and Somerville were the only ranked teams to play in Week Zero. Somerville was a 31-7 winner in Ian Pace’s debut as head coach over Mastery Charter H.S. of Camden.

Somerville and Hillsborough held in third and fourth, respectively, while Phillipsburg edged up a spot to sixth, and Ridge moved from No. 9 to sixth. Union held in seventh; Hillside tied for seventh, moving up from No. 8. East Brunswick went from a tenth-place tie to sole possession of ninth, while Cranford held in 10th.

St. Thomas Aquinas, Westfield, Bernards and South Brunswick again also received votes.
