After pitchers duel in Woodbridge, Barrons and Blue Jays to tangle again for GMC White title

With the GMC White Division pennant up for grabs in their final two games before Friday morning’s GMC seeding meeting, No. 8 Middlesex knocked off No. 3 Woodbridge Wednesday night, winning a 1-0 pitching duel, to clinch at least a share of the title.

Avery West’s RBI single in the top of the second turned out to be the difference, as Alfonso Esposito struck out 12, walked just one, and allowed four hits in a complete game shutout for the Blue Jays.

Josh Vazquez was almost as good for the Barrons, striking out seven and allowing five hits and four walks.

And it sets up a good one Thursday at Mountainview Park in Middlesex, which Central Jersey Sports Radio will broadcast live, with Mike Pavlichko calling all the action. Click here to listen. First pitch is set for 4:15, with pregame at 4.

Should the Blue Jays (16-3, 13-2 GMC White) finish off the two-game sweep of the series, they would earn the GMC White Division outright in their first year up from the GMC Blue. Middlesex has now won ten straight since the last of its two division losses, which came to North Brunswick and Colonia.

Should Woodbridge (16-3, 12-3 GMC White) win Thursday, the teams would be GMC White Division Co-Champions.

If that were the case, at Friday’s seeding meeting, the committee would have to determine which team comes out of the division and goes “on the board” first, along with the champions of the Red, Blue and Gold Divisions.
