After getting knocked from their perch following a season-opening loss to state-ranked Northern Highlands, the Somerville Pioneers have returned to their perch at the top of the Central Jersey Sports Radio Top Ten.

Part of the move was due to the fact that North Brunswick – No. 1 for two straight weeks – was dethroned by unranked Sayreville, falling at home 35-22 to drop to 2-1, falling from the ranks of the undefeated.

Somerville – despite the Highlanders’ loss, is now 3-1, 2-0 in Big Central play, after a 45-7 win at Rahway Friday night.

In their three wins thus far, over Olney Charter (PA), Carteret and the Indians, the Pioneers have outscored them a combined 117-7.

North Brunswick fell into a tie for fifth with the loss, while Monroe (3-0) and Westfield (2-0) made their debuts in the poll.
