Shittu, Stansbury are primed to help Edison “finish” in 2021

Edison junior Adekunle Shittu is expected to make a big impact at defensive end for the Eagles in 2021.

The Edison Eagles were 6-2 in the COVID-shortened 2020 football season.

But a closer look reveals they were just two points shy of a perfect season.

They dropped their opener 7-6 at Franklin, and then a heartbreaker to North Brunswick a few weeks later 21-20.

No need to remind them of either defeat, especially the one to the Raiders. They remember it well, and are using it as fuel for 2021, where the goal is to close, to finish games.

Edison returns a number of key players on offense on defense. There’s junior quarterback Matt Yascko, who began his career as a starter midway through his freshman campaign. Jaden Peart and Malcolm Stansbury are two top receivers. On defense, Stansbury will man one of the corners, while Adekunle Shittu will be a disruptive force at end, after leading the team in sacks, TFLs and quarterback hurries a year ago.
