The Commander’s Cup trophy – awarded annually to the winner of each year’s Spotswood-East Brunswick baseball tussle – has been with the Chargers for over four years.
They took it back with them after a 6-0 road win on the last day of May in 2017, and it hasn’t been up Summerhill Road since.
Wednesday afternoon, the Bears hope to change all that.

That’s when East Brunswick – which is 8-8 overall and 8-6 in the GMC Red through Monday’s win against Piscataway – will travel to take on Spotswood at the place the Chargers affectionately call “The Swamp.”
(The descriptor is quite apropos.)
First pitch is set for 4 pm, and you can hear the entire game on Central Jersey Sports Radio with Mike Pavlichko and Dom Savino calling all the action, starting with the pregame show at 3:45. Click here to listen to the live broadcast.
The Bears will throw Mike Marchesi to start the game, and head coach Chris Kenney hopes to get two to three solid innings from him before going to senior Chris Procaccini.
East Brunswick will be playing its third game in as many days, its third such stretch this season, with all coming since the calendar turned to May.
