If you asked Mike Cipot in the Spring – after COVID hit, but while we still thought football might mean a return to normalcy in the fall – what he expected out of his Raiders in 2020, the fourth-year head coach would have have said this:
A 7-1 record, with the lone loss coming to state-ranked Cranford.
The schedule was far from easy. They knocked off state-ranked Passaic Tech, and beat a really good Edison team that also received votes in the final Big Central Media Poll on Central Jersey Sports Radio.
Oh, and in their opener, they defeated Sayreville for a second straight year, after beating the Bombers for the first time ever in 2019.
One player does never a team make, but even the most astute football observer would not have predicted this post-Myles Bailey.
The two-way star who got attention for his skills at runningback owns the records for career rushing yards (5,096), career rushing touchdowns (41), and career points (314). As a safety, his 8 career interceptions rank 5th all-time in school history.
