OFFICIAL: NJSIAA releases “postseason” matchups for Weeks 7 and 8 of 2020 football season

The NJSIAA has released the long-awaited matchups for Weeks 7 and 8 in the postseason of this COVID-shortened 2020 campaign.

Included are some marquee matchups, with Somerville-Woodbridge at the top of the list. The Pioneers are undefeated at 5-0 and ranked No. 2 in the Central Jersey Sports Radio Top Ten. The Barrons are 4-0 and ranked No. 1. The game will be played Friday, November 13th at 7 pm.

Other key matchups include undefeated and No. 3 North Brunswick (5-0) at No. 7 Old Bridge, which is 4-1, with the lone loss coming out of conference to Wayne Hills, which is 5-0. That game is scheduled for Friday night at 6 pm.

No. 5 Ridge at No. 6 Phillipsburg (7:00 Friday) is another intriguing game, with the Red Devils and Stateliners both 4-1.

South Plainfield (1-3) and North Plainfield (5-0) were supposed to play this week in their Big Central crossover matchup and rivalry game, but the Tigers have been shut down for two weeks due to COVID. They will play next Friday at Krausche Field at 7:00.

St. Joseph of Metuchen (2-2) will be the only league team playing non-conference. They will host Don Bosco Prep (1-2) Saturday, the 14th at 1 pm at Brenner Family Field. The Ironment beat Paramus Catholic earlier this year, but lost to Delbarton and St. Peter’s of Jersey City. The Falcons will host Cranford in Week 8, returning to a Big Central foe.

Also notable for Week 7, the schedule includes Middlesex at Bound Brook, but Bound Brook officials announced Wednesday night the district high school is shutdown due to a COVID case involving a student. The Crusaders could presumably resume play after a 14-day shutdown in Week 8, when they’re scheduled to play at Brearley on Friday, the 20th at 6 pm.

For Week 8, highlights include Montgomery at No. 8 Watchung Hills on Thursday, Nov. 19. On Friday, the 20th, there’s Woodbridge at North Brunswick, Old Bridge at Union, Phillipsburg at Somerville, and South Brunswick at Ridge among the notable tilts. Cranford at St. Joseph-Metuchen and Summit at Hillside are Saturday highlights.
