Del Val climbs into a top seed spot in mock Week 5 UPR; South River still far behind

The week 6 mock UPR standings calculated exclusively by Central Jersey Sports Radio show Delaware Valley has climbed into second place in the South Group 2 supersection, with a perfect 5-0 mark.

The Terriers are just behind 3-0 Delran, which sits in the top overall position despite such a limited resume, apparently revealing a weakness of playoff ranking systems in such a short season.

Haddon Heights (4-0) dropped one place to third, despite none of the top three teams losing.

Hillside (3-1) edged up one position to ninth, and – along with Bernards in 11th – is the only other area team in “contention” in this hypothetical scenario.

Despite a middling 2-2 mark, South River is nowhere near sniffing the playoffs. The Rams rank 14th in power point average rank, but 27th in OSI rank, leaving them 24th overall, eight positions out of a playoff spot, behind a pair of 1-4 teams: Cedar Creek (14th) and Sterling (16th).

Four other teams with power point ranks equal to or worse than South River’s are in the playoffs: Haddonfield (2-2, 8th overall, 14th in power points, but 5th in OSI rank), Pleasantville (2-3, 10th overall, 16th in power points, but 6th in OSI rank), Cedar Creek (25th in power points, but 10th in OSI) and Sterling (16th in power points, 17th in OSI.

Below are the overall standings and hypothetical brackets for the South Group 2 supersection:
