Even at 4-0, Somerville would still be battling tooth and nail to pick up a top seed in the playoffs, if they were being held in 2020.
The Pioneers did, however, move up two places in Central Jersey Sports Radio’s mock UPR standings for Week 4.
They rose from 7th to 5th in the South Group 3 supersection, as their power point average ranking rose from 5th to 3rd, and their OSI crept from 9th to 6th.
Strength of schedule appears to be holding the Pioneers back, though a COVID cancellation by Plainfield this weekend may prove to be fortuitous. Somerville scheduled Old Tappan, with an OSI of 73.98, to replace the Cardinals, who had a Strength Index of 45.08 heading into the week.
Somerville’s regular season finale is against Hunterdon Central, which has an Strength Index of 54.74, and should raise the Pioneers’ OSI, which currently sits at 51.13.
Below are the current UNOFFICIAL standings for the South Group 3 supersection.
The Top 16 teams would be qualifiers, designated in bold.
