Spotswood relishes underdog role against St. Joe’s

St. Joseph of Metuchen is the highest remaining seed in the GMC Tournament, but that doesn’t faze Spotswood.

The 10th seeded Chargers take on the second-seeded Falcons tonight in the championship tourney’s quarterfinals, after knocking off 7th-seed East Brunswick 2-1 Saturday behind a two-hitter from Casey Cumiskey.

It was Spotswood’s second win over East Brunswick this season, with the first coming just three days prior when Ty Lewandowski’s double off the wall in left field drove in two runs in the seventh, fueling a walk-off win in the annual Commander’s Cup trophy game.

By the transitive property (which never works in sports anyway) the Chargers should at least be able to hang with St. Joe’s: they beat East Brunswick twice this year, and East Brunswick beat both Falcons in the Red Division, Joe’s and Monroe.
