Woodbridge extends win streak to five with 6-4 win over Colonia in twinbill opener

After both team’s aces pitched in Thursday’s rainout, with neither available for Saturday’s doubleheader, Woodbridge coach Mike Monaco was looking for some help from the rest of his staff.

He got a pleasant surprise, and a senior delivered.

Matt Medvetz hadn’t pitched since Opening Day on April 19th against Edison, when he came out of the game with arm issues. Monaco had hoped he would be back Saturday to give the rest of this staff some rest.

Medvetz delivered, and then some.

The senior pitcher threw five innings to get the win, allowing just two earned runs on three hits, while striking out nine. Both runs came in the first, after which Medvetz settled down to even his record at 1-1.

But most importantly, it allowed Monaco to get some breathing room for the rest of the day.

Medvetz also helped his cause at the plate, doubling in a run in the first inning to help the Barrons to a 3-0 lead.
