New Jersey high school football still has power points and OSI as part of the UPR playoff formula. The one thing they don’t count: style points.
Good thing for Colonia, but they’ll take it.
The Patriots fell behind at home Friday night 14-0 to North Hunterdon, allowing a touchdown each in the first and second quarters. But they score three straight touchdowns, gave up one to tie the score at 21, then got a 28-yard field goal by Dylan Chiera with three minutes and change left to win it.
After Tom Wojtal caught a 43-yard TD pass from Nick Ramaci in the first, and Cole O’Connor ran in a score from 22-yards out, Colonia trailed by two scores. R.J. Wortman’s 16-yard touchdown catch from Chiera got them within a score, making it 14-7 at half.
Colonia got the next two scores as well – a five-yard run by Julien Jones, and a 35-yard strike from Chiera to Jaylen McCrae, but Ramaci scored from 23-yards out to tie the game at 21-all.
The fourth saw little scoring until the Patriots marched down field and set up their QB and kicker, Chiera, for a 28-yard field goal that proved to be the winning score.
Colonia (1-1) will play host to Linden next Friday night, while the Lions (0-2) will host Watchung Hills (1-1).
