Last year, Joe Goerge adapted his offense to the Andersons; now, Barrons will see more “options”

As if the departure of Joe LaSala from Woodbridge last spring was surprising enough, the news that Joe Goerge would be the Barrons’ next coach also caught many off guard.

It wasn’t that anyone thought Goerge couldn’t do it. After all, the success he’s had at places like Franklin, South Brunswick – and even resurrecting the Dayton program – all show he can do it. But with established talent on offense including twins Derek and Bryan Anderson at quarterback and wide receiver, it seemed, at least, curious, since Goegre is well-known for his triple-option.

But he adapted, sprinkling some of it in here and there, but mainly sticking with a more traditional offense throughout the year. And it paid off. The Barrons recorded a perfect regular season, finishing 10-1 after a second-round loss to eventual North 1, Group 4 champion Northern Highlands.

But with the Andersons gone, it opens up a slew of options for the Barrons’ offense, literally and figuratively, and Goerge says we may see more of his own brand of offense in 2025.

This year’s group will be younger, but also, perhaps, more likely to adapt to changes in the playbook as they come up through the ranks.
