The rainy, raw conditions really did a number on the 2025 edition of the Autism Awareness Challenge, scattering games originally scheduled to be played at North Brunswick Community Park all over the area.
And in one of the more unique quirks, No. 6 Old Bridge will get to play on its home turf at Fred Cole Field as the “visitors” Saturday, when the Knights “entertain” St. Joseph-Metuchen. The Red Division game that was set to close the event in North Brunswick would have been a home game for the Falcons, with the rematch at Old Bridge set for Thursday.
For now, it looks like both games will be played in the shadows on Route 9.
You can hear Sunday’s game right here on Central Jersey Sports Radio, with Mike Pavlichko and Chris Tsakonas on the call, and pregame set for 4:45 pm. Click here to listen.
Both teams come in on a two game win streak, with Old Bridge 4-3 (3-3 in the Red), and St. Joseph 2-2 (2-2 in league).
The Knights got back on track with a 6-2 win at Edison Wednesday and a 1-0 win at South Plainfield Thursday after a three-game losing streak that followed a 2-0 start to the season. The Falcons were swept in their season-opening series by Woodbridge, but bounced back with a vengeance via a 14-7 road win at South Plainfield on April 4th, and an 11-1 home win over South Brunswick Thursday as they play their first season under new head coach Dennis McCaffery.
Senior Old Bridge ace Justin Hascup will take the mound for the Knights. He’s been as good as ever, with a 1-0 record in eleven innings pitched, and a 1.27 ERA. He leads the team in strikeouts with 17, against only three walks.
St. Joe’s hasn’t decided who it will go with, but McCaffery should have everyone available, with only Joseph Barca (1-1, 3.18 ERA) limited to 90 pitches, since he just went Thursday and got the win against South Brunswick.
