One last time, Schiro takes the court for Hillsborough girls’ basketball, looking to add to personal, program legacy

It’s been a long road to get to this point, over several years.

But now, 32 minutes – maybe a few more – are all that’s left in the high school career of Hillsborough’s seniors. And that includes Francesca Schiro.

“Cesci,” as she’s known, is perhaps the most decorated girls’ basketball player in school history. She’s scored more points than anyone else – regardless of gender – to walk the halls of the school.

Schiro is at 2,089 points and counting heading into Sunday’s 4 pm Group 4 title game against West Orange. She’s done a lot, including helping her team to its first-ever state sectional championship, which came last year in North Jersey, Section 2, via a 59-46 home win over Elizabeth.

This year, they have a second trophy in their case, but are looking for more.

You can hear Sunday’s game on Central Jersey Sports Radio with Mike Pavlichko and Alec Crouthamel on the call. Pregame starts at 3:45; click here to listen.

We got a chance to stop by practice this week and talk with Cesci about the team’s progression over the last few years, their state tournament run, and Sunday’s rematch with West Orange, which they beat by four in the regular season back on February 20th.
