Forget about the snow, it’ll be a short trip for Edison up Plainfield Avenue into Piscataway to make the turn onto Ethel Road for a pretty big high school basketball game Thursday, the last day before the GMC Tournament is seeded.

While it looks like both will be lucky enough to get the game in before the meeting, the result is anything but guaranteed, as Edison and Timothy Christian will square off at 5:30 to see who is the Blue Division champion.

Timothy Christian is 11-6, Edison 11-8, but both 8-1 in the division. The Tigers won their first meeting on January 11th, 52-33, in a game that was still tight at the half. But with equivalent records, that game won’t really factor in here. The winner is the division champ, and will get one of the guaranteed top 12 seeds that go to division winners.

The top eight get double-byes into the first round, the field of 16, while the next four get byes out of the play-in round to the preliminary round.

Timothy is led by senior guard Jalen Fleming, who recently became the Tigers’ all-time leading scorer. He has 1,930 career points. Meanwhile, 6-7 senior Chukwudi Raphael-Mamah is averaging a double-double, 11.5 points and 10.5 boards per game, with a team-best 44 blocks – almost three a game.

Edison is led in scoring by Dheeraj Samparaboyina, avergaing 13.9 points a game, while senior point guard Dedrick Harvey is happy to distribute the ball. He averages just 3.9 points a game, but gets it done on both ends of the floor, among the state leaders in assists (111) and steals (82).
