Red-hot Lin sends No. 3 Montgomery to 61-47 win over No. 5 St. Joseph-Met. in South Amboy

Coming off a season in which he broke his ankle and missed the entire county and state tournament, Montgomery’s Ethan Lin appears to be making up for lost time.

A week ago, in his first game back, he scored a career high 26 points against Hudson Catholic in the New Jersey Basketball Coaches’ Tip-Off Classic at Montgomery. That was a 44-40 loss, but it showed what Lin is capable of, and that he still has his game, and then some.

Saturday night, at the Friends of South Amboy Charity Basketball Tournament at South Amboy High School, Lin was again the star of the show. He could have easily broken a few defenders’ ankles with his nifty moves left and right, and he swished four threes en route to a 27-point game -a new career high – in a 61-47 win for No. 3 over St. No. 5 Joseph-Metuchen, as heard live on Central Jersey Sports Radio.

It was a tight first quarter with a quick pace, and Monty led 21-15 after one. But in the second, the Cougars started pulling away, taking a 38-22 lead – their biggest of the game at that point – into the locker room. Braden Ginsberg, who finished with eight points, had two big treys in the quarter.

Montgomery maintained the lead the rest of the way, leading by 19 at one point in the fourth.

The Cougars now have won three straight since their season-opening loss, and improved to 3-1. St. Joseph fell to 1-2.
