This past week I had the chance to see two teams who were looking to give their new head coach his first victory at their respective schools.

On Friday at Arminio Field in Roselle, the youthful Roselle Rams nearly rallied late in the fourth quarter before turning the ball over to visiting Metuchen thus denying Tyrone Turner a Gatorade bath and his first win as Abraham Clark’s mentor.

Saturday afternoon at Memorial Stadium in New Brunswick, Scotch Plains-Fanwood wore down a stubborn Zebras defense with a heavy dose of the run while giving Shawn Johnson his first game ball as the Raiders’ skipper.
