SPONSORED CONTENT – If you were to run down the list of 14 high schools playing baseball in the Somerset County Tournament, literally half of them trained this off-season at Zoned Sports Academy in Bridgewater.
And that’s just half the story.
With the SCT well underway, and the quarterfinal round set to take place Thursday, five of those teams that trained with Duke Baxter and Co. are still alive, including three of the top four seeds. And two of Thursday’s contests will feature Zoned schools going up against each other.

What it means is those schools have seen value in the training they get there, from someone who’s been in their shoes. Baxter grew up with baseball, played collegiately at Florida Atlantic, and spent some time with the Somerset Patriots, where the Somerset County Tournament will play its semifinals and finals next week.
Baxter has kept up with the times, adding new features at Zoned Sports Academy as needed. That included virtual instruction during the COVID-19 pandemic, and last year, they instituted a new strength training program.

And in a day and age when everyone seems to want to knock the ball out of the park, or throw 100 miles an hour, Baxter focuses on fundamentals. In a 28,000 square-foot indoor facility, all that can be done once the New Year rolls around, no matter the weather.
And with a shortened preseason the NJSIAA instituted last year, that has become ever more valuable, not just in terms of instruction, but it even helps team bonding to have everyone together for weeks before preseason practice even begins.
