The South River baseball team has made it to the Round of 16 in the GMC Tournament.
The 18th-seeded Rams got a gem from senior starting pitcher Julius Rosado – who also collected his 100th hit at the plate with a single in the top of the seventh – in a 4-0 road win over 15th-seed JFK in Iselin Saturday.
Rosado – a Rutgers commit – went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles and a stolen base, while allowing just three hits in a complete game shutout, walking four and striking out nine. Catcher Noah Borero drove in the game’s first two runs in the top of the first.
Rosado’s nine Ks also gives him 224 for his career, breaking Franky Fiumecaldo’s modern day school career strikeout record of 216.
South River (9-7) now moves on to play at second-seed Woodbridge – the GMC White Division champion – in Monday night’s first round, under the lights at 7:00. It’ll be the Rams’ first meeting with the Barrons since 2019, when they lost 10-0 to Woodbridge. South River won their last meeting before that, 7-2, in 2016.
JFK falls to 8-7.
