Manville “simplifies” the game as Mustangs balance experience and newcomers

Now in his tenth season as the head coach of the Manville baseball team, Rob Snyder has seen enough of the cyclical nature of sports that he knows how to deal with a veteran team, a young team, or a mix of the two.

The 2024 edition of Mustangs’ baseball is somewhere in the middle.

They have veterans like James Mascola – who will get the start Tuesday afternoon against Bound Brook in a game you can hear on Central Jersey Sports Radio at 4 pm with Mike Pavlichko on pregame at 3:45 (click here to listen) – and catcher Sebastian Carvajal.

Snyder says the two were compliments last year to the senior class, and now they are seniors. He adds they’re leaders “but don’t have to do everything” either.

And their role with the younger kids, bring them along, and keep it simple.

With players learning new positions, Snyder says he’s going to try to minimize having guys bounce around from a corner infield spot, to the outfield, to the middle infield. Consistency is key.

Manville was one of the many teams who couldn’t get in all its games last week due to the rain and poor field conditions that resulted. They only got in a road game at Warren Hills on Saturday, a 7-0 loss. Now, they’re looking for a win Tuesday in their home opener against Manville.
