From 2012 to 2020, Plainfield football never won more than two games in a single season. But with five wins each in their last two – the first two under James Williams as head coach – the Cardinals are no longer an easy “W” on the schedule.
They didn’t get the win Friday night in Skillman, but they gave Montgomery everything it could handle in a game in which the Cougars eventually triumphed, 23-14.
Senior Michael Schmelzer, Jr., ran for a touchdown and threw for another – to Ethan Golubitsky – while Montgomery also got an eight-yard TD run from Brady post and logged a safety in the win.
Montgomery is now 3-0 on the season for the second straight year – last year they won their first five and finished 7-3 – while Plainfield drops to 1-1.
