Stateliners back for more in ’23, with Easton – as always – Public Enemy No. 1

Go ahead, make the mistake that I did, saying it was a disappointing end to Phillipsburg’s season, a loss in the North 2, Group 5 finals, on their own field, by three touchdowns.

Not only was it not their last game of the season, but that state title game wasn’t even the most important game in their season, like it would be for any other school in the state of New Jersey.

No, the most important game on the schedule is Easton. Even if the Stateliners went 1-9, as long as that win is over Easton, it’s a successful season.

And so, P’burg is back looking to beat their cross-Delaware River rivals for the second year in a row. Their win last year on Turkey day was their first in the series since 2014, and they haven’t beaten the Red Rovers in successive years in two decades; the last time it happened was 2002 and 2003.

This year’s squad again is loaded, with tons of talent, and virtually zero ego.
