When the second-seeded Comets scored with just under four minutes to go Saturday afternoon, it looked like they had the game all knotted up, and they could have been headed to overtime with a chance to win.

Except 7th-seed Parsippany Hills got a block on the PAT, and the score held, 28-27.

But Hillside would not be denied, and would score yet again – on a Darvens Tunis 44-yard touchdown catch – to complete a furious second-half comeback. They scored the final 19 points in their North Jersey, Section 1, Group 3 first-round game, and survived the opening round with a 33-28 win.

On to the next one, as they say.

Hillside actually led 14-0 in the game, but Par Hills got the next four scores to go up 28-14 heading into the final quarter, which – as it turns out – would belong to the Comets.

West Point commit Kyon Simonson scored three times for Hillside, which is now 8-1 and will face third-seed River Dell at home next Saturday at 1 pm at Conant Street Park.
