Rutgers Prep girls win fourth sectional title, crush Wildwood Prep in Non-Public South B final

A 39-8 score at halftime is a first-round score in the state tournament, not a sectional final score.

But that is the level Mary Klinger’s Rutgers Prep girls are playing right now, and ever since the calendar turned February, following a miserable loss to St. John Vianney up at Kean University.

It was 39-8 at halftime, the lead for top-seed Rutgers Prep over 2nd-seed Wildwood Catholic, and Klinger got to empty the bench before the midway point of the fourth quarter. 67-36 was the final.

Katie Ledden had 18 while Leyla Castro had 10. In a testament to Prep’s well-rounded talent, they were the only two players in double figures.

The Lady Argonauts move on to the Non-Public Group B final, which will be played this Saturday at either 2 or 4 pm at the RWJ Barnabas Arena at Toms River North High School. The NJSIAA has not announced the game time yet.

The Argos will play the winner of tonight’s Non-Public North B final, either top-seed Saddle River Day or 2-seed Morris Catholic.
